Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why choose Elkhorn Creek?
A: We have no desire to be the biggest or the cheapest log
furniture builder. Building personal relationships with our
customers is as important as building the furniture itself. Our
furniture is built to order for you. Our overhead is kept to a
minimum by selling direct and without a store front.
Q: Do you build your own furniture?
A: Yes! It is very important to us that we build our own
furniture. With the exception of lampshades and cushions, all
of our furniture is handcrafted for you.
Q: How long have you been in
business?
A: We started building log furniture in the late 90’s as a
hobby. With the recommendation of family and friends, we decided
to go into business in 2001.
Q: What is your lead time?
A: While it can vary at different times of the year, our lead
time is generally about 2-4 weeks. Please call us for current
lead times.
Q: How do you handle payment?
A: We normally ask for a 50% deposit at the time your order is
placed and the balance is due upon delivery or prior to
shipping. We accept cash, guaranteed check and
Visa/Mastercard.
Q: How do you handle shipping and
delivery?
A: We make local deliveries ourselves. For our non local
customers, the furniture will be crated and shipped to your home
or business.
Q: What finish do you use and why?
A: We use a high quality urethane finish on all of our products.
After final assembly and fine sanding, the urethane is applied
in a multiple coats resulting in a superior finish that brings
out the natural beauty of the wood. This does add time and
expense to the final product, but it is the best finish
available. We have used beeswax finishes in the past, but found
that they did not offer the same level of protection and needed
continued reapplication by the customer.
Q: What types of hardware do you
use in your furniture?
A: We use the finest quality hardware available, such as full
extension ball bearing drawer glides, three way adjustable
concealed hinges, high quality birch drawers with dovetail
joints, roller bearing glider mechanisms and much more.
Q: What type of wood is used in
your furniture?
A: We hand select each and every piece of standing dead aspen.
Some other woods such as beetle kill pine and Douglas fir are
used in certain items such as our Glider Rocker bases. Careful
attention is made to use logs with a lot of character and
color. It is important to match the logs according to size,
shape and color in order to give symmetry and balance to our
furniture. We do offer a select line of pine furnishings.
Q: What happens if I have a problem
with my furniture?
A: Every attempt is made to ensure that you don’t have any
problems, but on occasion, a problem may arise. We rely heavily
on word of mouth advertising and guarantee our craftsmanship.
We stand behind our furniture and will repair or replace any
item that is found to be defective.
Q: Are cracks in log furniture
normal?
A: Yes, in fact, they add to the natural character and rustic
appearance. When we build the furniture, we make sure that any
cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the furniture.
Since the aspen logs we use are harvested from standing dead
tree groves, the wood has already dried and cracked.
Q: Do you handle custom orders?
A: We’re glad you asked. This is the hallmark of our business.
While it is not always the most profitable, it is what we love
to do and what we do best. We can handle everything from a
simple modification to an existing design or a entirely custom
creation. Please see our “custom designs” page for more
details.
Q: Do you have any
retail stores?
A: No. Bricks and Mortar retail stores have very high overhead
and markup can be over 100%.
Q: Will the
furniture I get look like the photos on your website?
A: Yes and No. Let us explain. It will have the same high
quality and general appearance as the photos that you see on our
website. We don’t believe in using bait and switch tactics.
Some websites and catalog dealers will use beautiful photos with
high character logs and ship you something that was mass
produced. In fact, we are so confident that you will like what
you get, we can send you a photo of your completed furniture
prior to shipping. What we mean by “no” is that every item is
handcrafted and designed to be unique. Since we use wood with a
lot of character and color, no two beds will be exactly alike.
We have never had a customer return a product to us.

groves to your home!
